First draft: telling the history of neurodiversity out loud
A recorded walk-through of the history of neurodiversity. This is a first draft, not a finished piece — I am posting it so the revisions have something to revise.
This is the first time I have told this history straight through in my own voice, start to finish, without a room in front of me. I am calling it a draft on purpose. Some of it lands; some of it is me still finding the sentence.
What I am listening for when I watch it back: where I am narrating a medical timeline instead of a power story, where I hand the naming over to clinicians without saying who was left out, and where I say "we" and do not specify who that we includes.
Revisions I already know I owe this draft: open with the Global South critique rather than arriving at it late, name Brad Lomax, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Donald Galloway earlier so intersectionality is a through-line and not an aside, and be more concrete about what any of this changes in the building I actually teach in.
Leaving the draft up matters to me. This journal is supposed to show learning in motion, and a polished version posted later would hide the part where I was still working it out.
