Does racialized rigor travel differently in a private school than in a public one?
Why the question matters
If the mechanism is policy-as-applied in public schools and belonging-as-conditional in private ones, then the same harm needs two different interventions — and a single equity audit would catch only one of them.
What I currently think
Public school seems to route it through discretion inside universal policies: who gets the retake, whose tone counts as defiance. Private school seems to route it through the scholarship or recruited-cohort role, where struggle reads as a question of fit rather than a need for support. Same differential, different delivery system.

The demand is heavier, the grace is thinner, and the whole arrangement is delivered as care. I am trying to describe how racialized rigor actually shows up in a building — because until it is describable, it is deniable.
